My little Wren was so happy to find her new A & M home. She quickly checked it inside and out before she decided it was perfect. Then she started immediately ‘moving in.’ Twig after twig, spider webs, leaves and a little bit of yarn and voila! A comfy new home for her soon to be family.
Not once did I see her pace up and down the fence line, fretting over if this was the right spot or not. She didn’t call her friends over to have them check it out and give their opinion. She just trusted what God has provided and moved in.
Oh, that we could be so trusting. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:25-27, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
In my Sunday school class recently we were talking about worry. Why in the world do we worry so, when we know God will take care of us. We know we matter more to him than the little birds, yet we worry.
Here are a few bits of wisdom shared by my sisters in Christ about worry.
- It wastes today! We are so busy fretting over what might happen tomorrow, we don’t enjoy and live today.
- It won’t change the outcome! Just as Jesus said, will worrying add a single hour to your life? (No, but it might give you gray hair!)
- It doesn’t mean you care more! Sometimes we act as though our worrying shows others that we care a lot about the outcome of the situation, but it really doesn’t.
- If we are worrying, then we are not trusting God! (ouch!) Give it, whatever the situation, to Him and leave it with Him. He is always faithful.
If we could just learn to trust God with every situation, then we could be like the little Wren after she moved in. She got on top of her new home and sang loud and beautiful praises of thanksgiving to the Lord!
Are you ready to shout some praises of thanksgiving? Let’s stop wasting today and give God the glory!
I’ve included the passage from The Message, I just love the way Jesus’ message is worded here.
25-26 “If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.
27-29 “Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.
