‘In Due Time’ seems to be my summer-time theme. It started at the writer’s conference in June as a phrase repeated by several speakers and then picked up by the group of fellow writers I had the pleasure of hanging out with. All of us are praying that ‘in due time’ our work will be published.
While visiting my son in July, I was praying for my daughter-in-law’s salvation. I was asking God to send someone who she would listen to when His answer came quite clearly, “In due time.” I had to smile. His peace then came over me with such completeness, the worry and anxiety washed away.
Of course, it’s not a new phrase. We usually call it God’s timing. God’s timing is just one of those things I don’t believe we will ever come to understand, not here on earth anyway. Ecclesiastes 8:6 tells us, “For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter, though a man’s misery weighs heavily upon him.” The King knows the exact time and procedure needed for every situation. Even when we are in the middle of an unfortunate circumstance, we don’t have to know or understand what God is doing about it. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. (Isa. 55:8) We couldn’t understand if we tried and I’m beginning to think it’s a waste of our time and energy.
I believe our job in the situation is to trust Him and rest in Him. I like the way the Psalmist words his prayer in Psalm 131 (The Message).
God, I’m not trying to rule the roost,
I don’t want to be king of the mountain.
I haven’t meddled where I have no business
or fantasized grandiose plans.
2 I’ve kept my feet on the ground,
I’ve cultivated a quiet heart.
Like a baby content in its mother’s arms,
my soul is a baby content.
3 Wait, Israel, for God. Wait with hope.
Hope now; hope always!
Oh, that I could be this way and not meddle in God’s business and try to hurry things along or figure out a way to fix a problem I’m facing.
Learning to wait for His timing, His ‘in due time’ is not always easy. What a blessing He offers, that we can cuddle us in His arms and be content and wait. And look, we can wait with hope, hope now and hope always!

Something similar where God chose his time to work just happened for me this weekend-there was a parental situation I was dealing with and I was furiously exercising all earthly paths to resolution until I had no more. I had been praying but now I put everything I had into some pretty intense pleas with God for his guidance and his hand to work. Then I dropped it, meaning I stopped talking about it and I stopped being physically emotional about it-I didn’t even know
why I was acting that way, really. But it felt right and I felt calm about it for once. Then Sunday morning God intervened through an unexpected call from a friend of my dad, and the situation was suddenly resolved in the best way possible, in the safest way that I had been praying for. I realize now I “let go” and while I don’t think that effected the outcome-God had his plan all along-I think I heard his intervention more because I was focused on him and not what I had to do/should do next. Your post helped to solidify my reflection on this.

My favorite scripture that I always go to,”Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Hhim and He will make your path straight.” That verse covers everything!

Yesterday I got an exciting phone call from the rainwater collection people saying they would be here today and tomorrow to get our collection tank set up. That’s great but until they come do the digging to get it plumbed to the house not a lot will have changed. During this “no water” ordeal I have thought many times about Jesus being referred to as the Living Water. Knowing the water is close by and available is not the same as actually tapping into it for life and refreshment. Our brand new trailer that pulls a 100 gallon tank broke and spilled out a full tank in the pasture as we were trying to move animals in preparation for the water storage this morning. As we stood there in the heat feeling helpless and watching it drain, I felt thankful that I was not a refugee who faces a desperate need for water EVERY day. In due time this ordeal will have passed. In the mean time we have some great neighbors and friends and we are spending some much appreciated time with them.

It makes my heart smile when I catch up on reading your blog blessings! Earlier today, Mother and I were discussing our living situation, the sale of her house, and just where and how we were going to be able to find a home for the two of us in Goliad. I told her that all would be okay and God would take care of us. That faith in Him and his timing is what carries us through, and the Blessings are always perfect and enough!

I am a children’s book author and songwriter, also waiting to be published. Here are a few of my memorized go-to scriptures. Jeremiah 29:11-13 says, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”
2 Chronicles 15:7 encourages with, “But as for you, be strong and do not give up for your work will be rewarded.”
Finally Psalm 27:13-14 proclaims, “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD. Be strong and take heart. And wait for the LORD.”
